Post # 3 - The Morning Routine I Stopped Apologizing For

Posted under: Wellness & Habits | The Full Life Edit

For a long time, I thought my mornings were wrong.

Not early enough.

Not productive enough.

Not “that girl” enough.

You know the kind — the ones who journal for 30 minutes, drink lemon water, run five miles, meditate, and somehow manage to have glowing skin and a smoothie bowl by 7 AM. I tried to become her. Over and over.

But no matter how many times I “reset,” it never stuck.

Eventually, I stopped forcing it — and I started listening to what actually worked for me.

What followed wasn’t a perfect routine — but it was mine. And that made all the difference.

☕ What My Morning Routine

Used to Look Like:

  • Waking up late and rushing
  • Checking my phone immediately
  • Skipping breakfast or eating standing up
  • Starting work in a bad mood
  • Feeling behind by 9 a.m.

I always told myself I’d fix it next week. I’d start waking up earlier, be more “disciplined,” drink green juice, all of it.

But here’s the thing no one tells you:

It’s not about how early you wake up. It’s about how present you are when you do.

🌿 The Morning Routine I Stopped Apologizing For:

1.

I don’t wake up at 5 a.m. — and that’s okay.

I used to feel guilty that I wasn’t a sunrise warrior. But my body thrives on 7:30–8:00 a.m. wakeups, and when I honor that, I’m more clear-headed, patient, and energized.

2.

No phone for the first 30 minutes.

It’s not always easy, but it’s a game-changer. I use that time to stretch, drink water, open the blinds, and check in with myself before I check in with the world.

3.

I make my bed slowly.

It’s a small ritual, but it creates order. Even on chaotic days, it gives me a sense of control — like I started the day with intention.

4.

I drink coffee alone — and I protect that time.

No podcast. No multitasking. Just me, the warm mug, and my thoughts. It feels indulgent and grounding at the same time.

5.

Some mornings, I do nothing extra — and that still counts.

No workout. No journaling. No deep breathing. Just brushing my teeth, getting dressed, and showing up for the day with a calm heart.

💬 What I’ve Learned

I used to think I had to earn peace by being productive. But now, I give myself peace so I can be productive — in the way that matters most to me.

My morning routine doesn’t look impressive on paper.

It looks like someone who’s finally being kind to herself.

📌 A Gentle Reminder for You

Your morning routine doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s.

If it supports you — emotionally, mentally, or practically — it’s valid. Full stop.

Start where you are. Pay attention to what actually feels good. And most importantly, let go of the guilt. That’s the edit that makes the rest possible.

Have you edited your mornings lately?

Share one ritual or routine that’s working for you — big or small. I’d love to hear.
